Now that you have a general definition in mind and a broad idea of who is involved in the field of youth work, the next sections will help narrow the field of youth work by explaining the most important sectors of youth work.

Youth work can be divided into sectors:

Community based sector
A community-based organization is an organization that provides services within or on behalf of young people within their community. Youth serving community-based organizations typically operate in a non-classroom based environment.
Some examples are mentoring groups, youth leaderships groups, after school programs, and recreational programs. Community Based Sector Organizations

Education based sector
An education-based organization is an organization that provides services within or on behalf of young people within an educational setting. Education-based organizations can operate in a non-classroom or classroom based environment and provide remediation, tutoring, and educational experiences.
Some examples are after-school tutoring, remediation programs,  and after school programs.Education Based Sector Organizations

Faith based sector
Simply put faith based organizations are “any organization, group, program or project that provides human services, and has a faith element integrated into their organization”.
Some examples of faith based organizations serving youth would be youth programs at churches, church camps, or the Jewish Community Center. Faith Based Sector Organizations

Government based sector
Government based organizations are managed by and receive their funding from the state or federal government. 
Examples of youth serving governmental organizations include the Head Start program, Parks and Recreation, Family Court, and Juvenile Justice Programs. Govermental Sector Organizations
